In terms of seating capacity, they range from 5-seaters and 7-seaters (such as the Nissan Shuai Ke and Dongfeng Fengxing Lingzhi) to models with even higher capacities, like the Jinbei Granse.
Regarding development platforms, some MPVs are built on passenger car platforms, while others are derived from light commercial vans.
Some large MPVs are classified simply as vans; most MPVs sold in the US fall into this category and are referred to as "minivans."
Compact MPVs: These have a body length of 4,200 mm to 4,600 mm and seat 6 to 7 people. They feature a three-row seating configuration (typically 2-2-2 or 2-3-2), with standard seats in the first two rows and auxiliary seats in the third row.
Mid-size MPVs: Positioned between compact and small MPVs, these have a body length of approximately 4,100 mm to 4,200 mm, seat 5 to 6 people, and feature a two-row seating configuration.
Small MPVs (Mini MPVs): These gained popularity around the year 2000; they have a body length of less than 4,100 mm, seat up to 5 people, and feature a two-row seating configuration.
Micro MPVs (Microvans): Compared to traditional hatchbacks, these vehicles are designed with an intentionally increased body height.
