Sedans fall into various classes; standard dimensions for a typical family car usually range from 3,800 to 4,300 mm in length, 1,600 to 1,800 mm in width, and 1,400 to 1,600 mm in height. These dimensions are well-suited for compact vehicles.

 

Vehicle length is a key parameter influencing a car's purpose, functionality, and ease of use. Length is often used to classify vehicle segments; while a longer body offers more longitudinal space, excessive length can make U-turns and parking inconvenient. Generally, small to mid-sized passenger cars measure around 4 meters in length.

 

Vehicle width is crucial for passenger comfort and maneuverability. For a passenger car to provide a spacious feel for three people seated abreast, the width generally needs to be around 1.8 meters. Safety considerations have led to thicker door panels, which has also contributed to increased vehicle width. However, an excessively wide body can reduce convenience when driving or parking in urban areas.

 

Vehicle height directly affects the center of gravity and space utilization. Most sedans are under 1.5 meters tall-significantly lower than the height of a person sitting upright-primarily to lower the vehicle's center of gravity and prevent rollover during high-speed cornering. In contrast, vehicles such as MPVs and vans often have taller bodies (exceeding 1.6 meters) to provide ample passenger and cargo space; however, this raises the center of gravity, resulting in greater body roll when cornering.
